Presentation:
The team at Station de Moussours is made up of 6 full-time staff working in various areas, including overall station management and maintenance, the heifer workshop, the suckled cow workshop, crops and feed.
The 225ha plot is well grouped, with 85% grassland (permanent, temporary and alfalfa) and 15% maize.
The herd averages 550 animals over the year, divided into 10% calves, 25% cows and 65% heifers.

Expertise:
Our expertise lies in our protocol for evaluating the maternal qualities of the Limousin breed. To achieve this, we have to adapt every year to the arrival of new series of heifers from all over France, whose numbers can vary enormously. It’s a herd that is completely renewed every year, with the technical difficulties that go with that: familiarization, health, etc. Our role is, on the one hand, to create the conditions for optimal genetic evaluation by controlling environmental effects, and on the other hand, to carry out this evaluation rigorously and independently of the progeny tested, all for the benefit of breeders who use animal insemination.

Collaboration and Vision :
To carry out our evaluation mission, we work in close collaboration with CREALIM, a selection company distributing Limousin bulls by animal insemination, and the Institut de l’Elevage, a technical institute ensuring the follow-up of evaluations and the quality of data collection.
Our vision of the business is to always take our decisions from a qualitative and factual angle, to guarantee the best possible accuracy of the data we collect.

Commitment to the Agriculture of Tomorrow :
The protocol we follow was developed in the early 1970s and has evolved as techniques and knowledge concerning genetic monitoring of the French Limousin herd have evolved. Our protocol thus integrates all the measurements carried out on farms by performance control, and we enrich the IBOVAL indexation data with additional measurements carried out on the station.
Currently under development, the R&D pole developed by Marine Giroux enables us to anticipate breeders’ expectations in terms of genetics, as well as technical herd management, by collecting new traits and determining their degree of heritability.
